Common Core & More
Summer Sessions

Orange County Schools invited teams of teachers from each elementary, middle, and high school to participate in Common Core and More Summer Sessions.  The North Carolina State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards which will be implemented during the 2012-2013 school year. The Common Core State Standards represent K-12 learning expectations in English-Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics.  The Standards reflect the knowledge and skills students need to be college and career ready by the end of high school.

North Carolina also adopted Essential Standards in other content areas.  Professional development offered during the summer allowed teachers and administrators to gain a deeper understanding of the new standards.  Each school level team spent two days during the summer analyzing the standards, collaborating with other schools, developing a professional development plan for Back-to-School Staff Meetings, and communicating plans for preparing all students to become College and Career Ready!
