Southern Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS) District Accreditation
About the District Accreditation Process
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, also known as SACS, is the agency that accredits schools throughout the southern United States. On April 25-28, 2010, a Quality Assurance Team, made up of educators from across the southeast, will visit the Orange County School System to conduct our first District Accreditation visit. The team will take a look at how well all the parts of the education system – the district, school, and classroom – work together to meet the needs of students.
The Quality Assurance Team will interview principals, central office administrators, school board members, parents, and community members. They will also review documents and collect data related to the work of the school system. In addition to the district-level review, the SACS team will visit several schools. During the school visits they will tour classrooms, interview School Improvement Team members, administrators, parents, and community stakeholders.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Quality Assurance Team will make a recommendation about awarding the school system District Accreditation. When this happens, all schools in the Orange County School System will be accredited for the next five years.
Talk to your principal, School Improvement Team chairperson, or Sue Florence, Director of School Improvement (919-732-3622, Extension 12700) for additional information. Remember to mark your calendars for this important event taking place on April 25-28, 2010.
