Priority 4:  Strong Family, Business, and Community Support

 

Goal 4.1    

District education priorities responsive to the needs of the family, community, and business customers

*        Identify the essential needs of the family, community, and business customers.

*      Conduct surveys to assess perception and needs.

*      Actively seek and encourage feedback from parents, students, and the community.

*      Hold public hearings on issues that have potentially significant impact.

 

*        Improve systems of communication to provide timely and efficient interaction within the school system, between schools and parents, and between schools and the community.

*      Continue to update and enhance district Web site.

*      Develop and update communication and marketing plan.

*      Develop and enhance multiple methods for delivery of information.

*      Investigate the possibility of building parent e-mail addresses into the Student Information Management System (SIMS) database.

*      Implement an external system that communicates school and district needs to the community.

*      Provide staff development to community partners that addresses the needs of our district and suggests methods to encourage community support.

*      Develop a core group of individuals that can serve as a speakers’ group to programs for community groups. Publish a community involvement handbook.

 

*        Develop educational programs in response to family, community, and business needs.

*      Use results of community input to guide programmatic decisions.

 

Goal 4.2

A comprehensive and aligned system of support for the academic success and general well-being of children

*        Establish and enhance systems of support, both internally and externally, for the advancement of students’ physical, academic, psychological, and social development.

*      Create a manual of available services and lists of support resources for students.

*      Provide training for faculty and staff to learn how to work effectively with other agencies.

*      Encourage the faith community to form partnerships with schools.

 

*        Establish systems of support for families to enable them to advance the academic achievement of their children.

*      Conduct parent seminars on how to navigate the school system. 

 

Goal 4.3

A system to build the capacity of our district to create, respond to, and sustain meaningful partnerships

*        Develop and enhance partnerships between schools and community agencies, faith-based organizations, and businesses, for the support of students and the community.

*      Create a district role with the responsibility of building and sustaining partnerships within the community.

*      Investigate the possibility of expanding the Education Foundation for Orange County Schools into a Public Education Network.

*      Build relationship with the Chamber of Commerce.

*      Establish a multi-agency grant task force.

*      Explore fundraisers, such as Walk for Education, that involve the community.

*      Investigate the possibility of creating a student/parent/school/community-run business, similar to the PTA Thrift Shop.

*      Increase the number of Career and Technical Education internships with local businesses.

*      Implement senior projects, using community members as resources and as senior board representatives.
