What is AVID?

 

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The AVID system accelerates student learning and uses research based methods of effective instruction. The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, and most especially the least-served students in the middle capable of completing a college preparatory path will:

Succeed in rigorous curriculum

Enter mainstream activities of the school

Increase their enrollment in four-year colleges

Become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society

The purpose of the Academically Gifted Program is to provide an appropriately challenging educational program for students who perform, or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience or environment. Academically gifted students receive differentiated education services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program.
