The second grade team is using the Daily Five this year. Please continue reading to learn more about the literacy structure of the Daily Five.

"The Daily Five is a structure that will help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy. Students work at their level of challenge while taking responsibility for their learning and behavior."

MerrillExtension 42202 lynn.merrill@orange.k12.nc.us

Ms. Merrill is originally from Falmouth, Maine, and graduated in 2005 from Elon University with a Bachelor’s Degree in both Elementary and Special Education. In May of 2005, she returned to Maine and worked as an Educational Technician (Teacher Assistant) in a 1st/2nd grade classroom at the West School in Portland, Maine. Craving a classroom to call her own, (and missing the great state of North Carolina) she returned to the area to join the Efland-Cheeks family. This year will be her sixth year teaching on the second grade team.
Ms. Merrill’s interests in education and teaching include: Writing Workshop, Curriculum Mapping, the transition to the Common Core state standards, best practices in Literacy, Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) in Math, and Science/Math Notebooks.

She is especially excited being a coach for the Girls on the Run Program (GOTR) here at ECE!
In her free time, she enjoys running with the Mebane Running Club, cooking/baking, reading, spending time with friends, and visiting family in Maine during the summer months!
