Architecture Description Examples
"Mansion house" Most historic homes were first built as a single room and wings were added as necessity dictated.
"Piedmont"  Houses with narrow frames, high elevation, a central hall plan, massive chimmneys,and often a rear wing are an example of piedmont architecture.
"Secondary Houses" These houses feature separate one and two room kitchens. These kitchens have big fireplaces and overhead lofts. other examples are smokehouses, ice pits, and servants' rooms.
 Romanesque This style was mostly used for churches.  Features of this type consist of curved arches , towers rising from the , gallery above the arcade and windows set in arches . The First Baptist church that has a free standing tower that leads to a gallery and has windows set  in arches.
Greek Revival Architecture was popular in U.S. during 1818-1850. Features are are columns, pediment roofs,and  symmetrical windows.
Quaker plan Features are 3 rooms on the 1st floor with the first floor with one room called a hall and two smaller rooms. The second floor contains two rooms for the living area.
Gothic Revival Revival style based on English and French architecture from the 12th to 15th centuries. Pointed arched windows and steep pitched roofs.
Victorian Victorian  architecture was popular during 1825 though the 1900's. Flat roofless , corinied eaves, angled bay windows , and Corinthian columed porches.
