In order to provide assistance to individuals experiencing cardiac arrest, on school property, Orange County Schools has acquired automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) for use in designated schools, buildings and at designated athletic events.  AED use is encouraged for trained personnel at designated school-sponsored events, in appropriate situations.

 

Orange County Schools will endeavor to place the AEDs in secured, yet accessible locations in order for trained personnel to access them.  Any AED so provided at a designated athletic event should be secured by the trained personnel.  Procedures related to this policy will be reviewed post-incident and/or annually in accordance with applicable state and local statutes and regulations.

 

Nothing in this policy shall be construed as to require the presence or use of an AED by the Orange County Schools or its agents, not otherwise existing by law.  Orange County Schools expressly reserves all immunities from civil liability which are available to it, it’s sovereign immunity and the statutory immunities set forth in North Carolina General Statute Sections, 90.21.14 and 90-21.15 and set forth in Federal Statute 42 Section 238q as they currently exist and as they, or any successor statutes, may be amended.
